Till now, importers in the country have been using environmentally hazardous plastic packaging for rice, wheat, maize and fertilizers. But according to the Mandatory Jute Packaging Act, 2010, violators from now on will face a year in jail and a fine of Tk. 50,000. For eco-friendly character, the demand for jute yarn, jute fabrics, and other jute items is increasing very fast. New technologies have evolved for the bulk use of jute as a raw material in the production of high value added and price competitive final products.
